Art and Shelter accepts exhibition and collection solicitations on an ongoing basis. Guest curated exhibitions are considered based on our current calendar of events and the value of the experience to both residents at The Salvation Army Alegria and our local community. Prior exhibitions have included both group and solo shows including paintings, photographs, textiles, and prints. There is limited space available for three dimensional objects such as ceramics and sculpture.
Due to the multi-use of our facility, The Salvation Army does not cover artwork from loss, damage or theft. However, the facility includes 24 hour video surveillance.
Artists can also request to participate in Art and Shelter’s collection program. Artists donate art to the program for exhibition in multiple facilities around Southern California. Donated art is exhibited in a social services location for at least 6 months before being considered for use in our annual art auction which benefits the HIV/AIDS programs at The Salvation Army Alegria. The Salvation Army will provide an artist a receipt for donated art indicating that the sale value of the work is tax deductable. Artists should consult their tax accountents to determine the value of the tax deduction.
